Barbados hosting Association of the Caribbean States (ACS) meeting

BARBADOS Barbados will play host to delegates from across the region when the Secretariat of the Association of the Caribbean States (ACS) convenes its 7th Meeting of the Caribbean Sea Commission next Monday, June 30. It comes off at the Sherbourne Conference Centre.

Barbados is the Chair of the Commission, and according to an official, “this meeting is of special significance, against the background of the need for the Commission and the Secretariat of the ACS to provide a report next month to the UN Secretary General on the progress made on the implementation towards the sustainable development of the Caribbean Sea for present and future generations.”

The designation of the Caribbean Sea as a ‘Special Area’ for sustainable development and comprehensive management surrounds a proposal which was made by member states through the ACS.

On Tuesday, July 1, there will be a public seminar as part of the effort to foster public awareness and public ownership of the Caribbean Sea Initiative at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Lecture Theatre 2.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and International Business, Donville Inniss, will address the opening of the 7th Meeting of the Caribbean Sea Commission. He will also deliver opening remarks at the public seminar.
