Jamaica’s Triathlons Named Among World’s Best 100
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica has once again demonstrated why it is becoming such a hit destination for the active outdoor traveler. Two of its triathlons, the Jake’s Off-Road Triathlon and the Rose Hall Triathlon, were selected by Triathlete Magazine to be among the “100 Best Triathlons on Earth”. The list appears in the magazine’s March 2010 issue.
Jake’s Off-Road Triathlon was named among the “Five Best Off-Road Races” and had the distinction of being the only non-XTERRA event to be named in that category, while the Rose Hall Triathlon was named in the category “Top 10 Best Excuses for a Vacation”.
“This latest accolade is further evidence to Jamaica’s diversity and offerings to the active or outdoor traveler,” commented Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch. “Both the Jake’s Off-Road Triathlon and the Rose Hall Triathlon are popular events that have attracted large number of visitors from all over the world to our shores, and showcase some of the island’s most stunning natural beauty while challenging each and every competitor.”
This is Triathlete Magazine’s first-of-its-kind feature, and Jamaica’s two triathlons received high accolades in two of the thirteen race categories that represent the full gamut of triathlon – from off-road to women only, greenest to family friendly, and best post-race festivities. For this highly respected feature, the magazine’s editors carefully selected the top 100 events that stand out from the rest and cover more than just the basics. According to the magazine, for a triathlon to be considered one of the greatest on earth, participating in it should be a life-changing experience and one that is never forgotten.
This year’s staging of the Jake’s Off-Road Triathlon will take place in Treasure Beach on Jamaica’s South Coast on Saturday, April 24. The Rose Hall Triathlon is scheduled to take place in Montego Bay on October 24, 2010.
