MIAMI – The Honorable Prime Minister Bruce Golding commended the Educational Foundation for Children’s Care, Inc. (EFCCI) and endorsed its concept of integrating core family values and holistic learning into their Clarendon, Jamaica Children’s Village program.
During his keynote address at the EFCCI Jamaica Fundraising Dinner last Sunday evening, Prime Minister Golding stressed the importance of creating home environments where parents play the lead in helping to shape and lay the foundation for the development of model children in Jamaica.

Mrs. Lorna Golding, patron for the event, led the commitment segment of the dinner when she made the evening’s first donation of $100,000 (JMD) on behalf of her recently formed Jamaica Early Childhood Development Foundation, (JECDF). The dinner, which was held at the University of the West Indies, attracted the support of a number of individuals and corporate sponsors who further pledged some $50,000 (US).
Earlier that evening, Jamaican business man and philanthropist Mr. Hemsley Johston was awarded with the EFCCI Beacon of Light award for his donation of five acres of land towards the Children’s Village. His donation has helped the EFCCI further fulfill its goal of creating family structures that help to meet the needs of disadvantaged, abandoned and abused Jamaican children ages 0 – 10. Damion Mitchell of Northern Caribbean University’s Imagine Cup 2007 team also collected the EFCCI Youth Achievement award on behalf of his team for being the Caribbeans’ only finalist in the internationally recognized Microsoft competition.
