Jamaica’s Permanent Secretary Donovan Stanberry confirmed to speak at NJ Conference

NEW YORK – Ms. Beverly Smith, the Jamaican Diaspora’s Northeast Region Trade Council Sector Leader has confirmed that Jamaica’s Permanent Secretary Donovan Stanberry has just been confirmed to speak at the inaugural 2007 Investment Conference and Trade Expo, entitled “Beautiful Beaches, Bountiful Business,” which will take place on Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Hilton Hasbrouck Heights & Executive Meeting Center.

The New Jersey conference which is organized under Ms. Smith’s leadership is, as she said, “The only event of its kind in the United States.” Mr. Donovan’s presentation will support the program’s objectives – to promote joint ventures that will participate in the expanding opportunities in the Jamaican economy including Renewable Energy, Agriculture and Agro-Allied Industry, Information and Communication Technology, and Health & Wellness Tourism Services.

The one-day program will connect Jamaican and US businesses, policy-makers, investment bankers, large and small investors, key sector experts, and venture capital specialists to distinguish Jamaica as a prime investment destination. Furthermore, Ms. Smith said, “The Honorable Karl Samuda, Minister of Investment, Commerce & Industry, and the Honorable Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, have both been invited to attend and speak at the conference. Confirmations from both ministers have not yet been received but the Northeast Trade Council of the Jamaican Diaspora hopes both will attend this very important conference.”

Mr. Donovan Stanberry was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands in March 2006, prior to which he served in various senior positions in the Government Service, notably: Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Land and Environment; Chief Technical Director in the Ministry of Water and Housing; Senior Director in the Ministry of Public Utilities and Transport; and Senior Economist at the Planning Institute of Jamaica. Mr. Stanberry currently serves on the Boards of the Water Resources Authority; the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA); EX-IM Bank; the Urban Development Corporation; the Sugar Industry Authority; the Sugar Company of Jamaica; and the Banana Export Company.
