Jamaica’s new Prime Minister to be sworn in on September 11

KINGSTON, Jamaica – On Friday, September 7, 2007, Governor-General His Excellency the Most Honourable Professor Kenneth Hall received from the Director of Elections, notification of the official results of the general election, which was held on Monday, September 3.

The leaders of the two main political parties – the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party -have been apprised of the Governor-General’s receipt of this information.

Following the receipt of the results, which show the Jamaica Labour Party winning a majority of the seats in Parliament, the Governor-General has proceeded to invite the Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, Mr. Orette Bruce Golding to form a Government.

Mr. Golding will be sworn in as Prime Minister in a ceremony at King’s House on Tuesday, September 11, starting at 4 p.m.
