Jamaica’s JNMS Launches Ghana Money Transfer in Accra

KINGSTON, Jamaica – JN Money Services Limited (JNMS), the remittance arm of the Jamaican-owned Jamaica National Building Society, has launched its Ghana Money Transfer brand in Accra, Ghana, finalising the establishment of the brand, aimed at strengthening linkages between some four million Ghanaians across the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States and their 24 million countrymen in Ghana.

The service, which started operation in April 2009 through a partnership with the Merchant Bank of Ghana, was formally launched at a press conference at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra, Ghana on May 15, following its launch last year in the UK market.

Speaking at the launch in Ghana, Ama Baah, Project Coordinator of Ghana Money Transfer, said the service has been developing positively.
“We have experienced encouraging growth in the use of the remittance service by Ghanaians living in the United Kingdom since 2009,” she revealed. “And, following the addition of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) in March of this year to our collection points in Ghana, the use of the service has grown steadily.”

The partnership with the ADB increased the number of remittance collection points in Ghana to more than 100 Ghana Money Transfer Agents across the country.

Ms. Baah announced that Ghana Money Transfer will soon be embarking on an advertising campaign featuring Ghanaian International Footballer, Asamoah Gyan, to further widen the appeal for Ghana Money Transfer in Ghana and the Diaspora.
She added that the company would also introduce other convenient money services similar to its sister international remittance brand, JN Money Transfer.

“We have observed the ways in which people remit funds and have identified what their specific needs are, particularly the need for the timely delivery of money transfers,” Ms. Baah stated.

Commenting on the Accra launch of Ghana Money Transfer, Leesa Kow, General Manager of JNMS said the development of the brand is testimony to the seamlessness of business in the current global environment, and its capacity to enable partnerships that produce better outcomes for people in different parts of the world simultaneously.

“With our JN Money Transfer brand being the second largest remitter to Jamaica, we were positioned, in terms of technology and market strength, to offer services beyond Jamaica and into Ghana,” Ms. Kow reasoned, underscoring the rationale for entering the Ghanaian market.

“And, we are now looking at other emerging platforms as opportunities for cooperation,” she said noting that JNMS was a part of a larger transnational JN Group conglomerate, equipped to facilitate technical exchange in several areas, such as micro and small business financing, general insurance and information technology.

“We are indeed encouraged by the response to the existing service and we are looking at ways to develop products to meet the growing needs of the Ghanaian market,” she said.
