Jamaica’s Fraser & Stewart victorious in the finals of the women’s 100-metre race

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding hailed the victory of Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser and the silver medal run of Kerron Stewart, in the finals of the women’s 100-metre race, at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

The Prime Minister said their performances made it another historic day for Jamaica.

In a message just minutes after Shelly-Ann’s victorious run, the Prime Minister said the seeming ease with which she won the race in the smart time of 10.73 seconds, was the result of hard work and determination.

“Jamaica is on top of the world again this afternoon with these victories by our athletes. We are all brimming with pride and joy, thanks to our athletes who have been performing so excellently in Berlin,” Mr. Golding said.

“But the Championships are not over, and I want to encourage the other competitors to stay focused, concentrate your energies, so that we can bring home more world records and gold medals to our island,” the Prime Minister added.
