CONNECTICUT – Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Kenneth Guscott, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine, Dr. Harold Mignott, have been both honoured for distinguished service to the Jamaican community in the United States.
The event took place at the first annual conference of the Jamaica Diaspora Northeast USA Region Advisory Board, on Saturday, October 30, at the West Indies Social Club in Hartford, Connecticut.
They were presented with plaques by Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Marlene Malahoo Forte, and Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Audrey Marks.
Dr. Guscott was lauded for 19 years of service to the Boston community as Jamaica’s Honorary Consul, as well as numerous trade missions to Jamaica giving potential investors an opportunity to invest in their homeland.
He was also commended for the creation of the Boston Diaspora Venture, LLC, which entered into collaborative agreement with the bee farmer’s association in Jamaica, in an effort to help reinvigorate honey production for international distribution. He is 85 years old and will demit office later this year.

Dr. Mignott, who hails from St. Thomas, was cited for his contributions in the field of medicine and as co-founder of the Jamaica Trade Council of Greater Philadelphia. He was also recognised as the first chairman of the Northeast Diaspora Advisory Board, and for being instrumental in pursuing initiatives in health and education in Jamaica.

Dr. Mignott has been listed as one of the most influential African Americans in the city of Philadelphia for the past two years.
During the Diaspora conference, the city of Hartford recognised Senator Malahoo Forte, Ambassador Marks and Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Genevieve Metzger Brown. These awards were presented on behalf of the city by Jamaican born Hartford councilwoman, Veronica Avery Wilson.
