Jamaicans.com Sponsors the South Florida Premiere of the Jamaican Documentary, One People
PEMBROKE PINES – Jamaicans.com founder and CEO, Xavier Murphy, has announced their sponsorship of the South Florida premiere of the documentary, One People. The film celebrates Jamaica’s global reach, the island nation’s 50 years of independence, and its significance on the world stage.
“We are excited and honored to be a sponsor of the South Florida premiere of One People,” said Murphy. “The film captures the essence of the Jamaican people at home and in the Diaspora. It truly is a great tribute to Jamaica and 50 years of independence.”
The special event will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Oct. 27, 2012, in Hollywood, FL, at the Performing Cultural Arts Theatre. The venue is located at the Broward College South Campus, Building 68B, 200 Pines Blvd. Admission is free.
Elements of Jamaica’s culture have spread far and wide, from customs and cuisine to sports and the entertainment industry. The accomplishments of its native sons and daughters in all areas of endeavor have brought the country to the forefront of global awareness. One People is a collaborative documentary that highlights the long and colorful history of the island and its people.
“Jamaicans all over the world have excelled at the highest levels and our global impact on business, politics, culture, sports and many other fields is unquestionable,” said One People director and producer, Justine Henzell. “One People showcases some of our stars and exposes a few of our unsung heroes.”
The Caribbean paradise is well known for its beautiful beaches and as a top tourist destination, but few know of the tremendous changes the island has undergone throughout the centuries. Originally settled between 4000 and 1000 B.C., the nation was once a Spanish possession, became a British colony in 1655 and achieved independence on Aug. 6, 1962. Despite the introduction of foreign elements, the Jamaican people have managed to preserve their customs, culture and traditions, and One People celebrates their many accomplishments.
“We wanted to tell the story of Jamaica in a new way; a way that inspires and motivates and a way that celebrates and makes us proud,” said One People producer, Zachary Harding. “We are particularly excited about the South Florida premiere at the Performing Cultural Arts Theatre on Broward College campus. South Florida has a large Jamaican Diaspora who should be able to connect with One People.”
One People invites individuals worldwide to contribute footage to celebrate Jamaica’s 50 years of independence and global reach. The small island has made a big impact around the world and touched the lives of many outside the country.
One People provides an inside look at Jamaica and its people from those who know her best. The documentary offers viewers a new perspective on the island nation, its fight for independence, and a wide range of national heroes and treasures who have utilized their skills and talents to help make Jamaica a global force.
