Jamaican Women of Florida , Inc. (JWOF) hosts Thanksgiving food drive

jwof logoSOUTH FLORIDA – The Jamaican Women of Florida, Inc. (JWOF) hosts their first Food Drive running through November 20, 2014 in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Strategically selected drop-off sites have been positioned from South Miami Dade to Tamarac to give the community an opportunity to participate by donating non-perishable items that will be given to Life Net for Families in Broward County. www.lifenet4families.org. In 2013 JWOF donated $100 grocery gift certificates to three families in the community.

This year, under the leadership of Creative Director Karen Vick, JWOF is extending its contribution by expanding across two counties to encourage donations for the homeless.

It is ironic that Fort Lauderdale is in the national spotlight for its treatment of public homeless feeding, however, JWOF’s decision to sponsor this food drive preceded the media attention that is being given to this 365 days per year problem. “We have been blessed and we need to consider those less fortunate,” says Karen Vick. This is an extension of the work that JWOF has been doing since forming less than two years ago. “We have established a scholarship and donated to several needy families and women in our community,” says Dahlia Walker-Huntington, president and founder of JWOF

The community is encouraged to start food drives at work, church and in their neighborhood and drop off the collected items at:
