Jamaican Play Writer, Basil Dawkins play, “ Where is my Father “ Comes for Mother’s Day

CORAL SPRINGS – This Mother’s Day, Basil Dawkins returns to South Florida after a one year absence. The producer of such hits as “ Couples “, “ Champagne & Skyjuice”, Same Song , Different Tune”, “Feminine Justice”,” For Better or Worse” and “ Which way is Out ‘. The winner of numerous Actor Boy Awards over the years is at it again. This time he gives us “ Where is my Father “ which has been called funny, brilliant and deep, when it opened at the Little Little Theater in Kingston, last year.

Set in the inner city of Kingston, Jamaica is the story of Evadney, a brilliant and promising teenager, whose cup has been turned upside down, when she was sexually assaulted by her uptown boyfriend and his friends and what she needs to do to ensure that she survives and makes sure that her child knows its father.

“Where is my Father” is entertainingly painful, brilliantly written and executed to perfection. The actors are on top of their game and the direction and set are superb.

The play holds up a mirror for all to see and examine this sometimes dark side of our Caribbean experience. It takes a serious yet comical look at the inter reaction of the various class structures in Jamaica, as well as the role color plays in our day to day reality and how all these variables come into play when we relate to each other. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, you will get mad and you will choose sides, but you will leave the theater with a new found love for who we are.

This play is a must see and is very appropriate for Mother’s Day as it looks at what Mothers go through as they struggle to provide a better life for their kids.

“Where Is My Father” takes place on Sunday, May 13th, 2012 at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive, Coral Springs, showtime 7pm.
