Jamaican Govt. approves sale of Air Jamaica’s planes

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Cabinet has approved the continuation of Air Jamaica’s negotiations with GA Telesis for the sale of two aircraft at a cost of US$ 18.5 million, says Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz.

Speaking at the Post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House on Wednesday, (November 24) at Jamaica House, Mr. Vaz said that Air Jamaica has been pursuing the sale of the aircraft since the first quarter of 2009, in accordance with its Business Plan.

“Subsequently, a divestment agreement was brokered with Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL). CAL has indicated its intention to acquire a Boeing fleet, which resulted in Air Jamaica Limited (Legacy) continuing to pursue the sale of the aircraft. The sale of these assets forms an integral part of the divestment of the airline,” he said.

He also stated that Cabinet has given approval for a contract to Focus Aviation that has been providing brokerage services to Air Jamaica (Legacy), for the sale of the aircraft. Additionally, Cabinet approved the Aircraft Purchase and Sale Agreement between Air Jamaica Limited and GA Telesis.

GA Telesis offers aircraft, engines, components, maintenance and solution-based services.
