Jamaican Ambassador to the U.S. to recognize Volunteer Medical Team at fundraiser in Orlando

ORLANDO – His Excellency, The Honorable Anthony Johnson, Jamaican Ambassador to the United States will be the honorary guest speaker at “A Heartfelt Journey” Benefit being held on Friday May 8th, 2009, in Orlando, Florida.

Hosted over the Mother’s Day weekend at the Hilton Hotel in Altamonte Springs, this will be a very special treat featuring two legends of Jamaican music, Ernie Smith and Pluto Shervington.

“A Heartfelt Journey” will be an intimate celebration and showcase, featuring a night full of Caribbean culture and music, while raising much needed funds and awareness for the lifesaving efforts of the Jamaican Children’s Heart Fund Inc., (JCHF).

The night will feature a classic, on-stage performance, as Ernie and Pluto perform songs from their just released albums, as well as the unforgettable performances of their original popular hits.

Guests will have non-stop Caribbean entertainment as they mingle and party to the popular sounds of DJ Mark Swaby while enjoying delectable hors d’oeuvres along with their favorites from the cash bar.

Also included, is the launch of the new ‘Break Away Moments Caribbean Destinations’ magazine, culminating in a showcase of the latest fashion designs from Break Away Moments Forever Paradise’ collection designed by Yola Gray of House of Flayva. An Art Exhibit will be on display courtesy of Orange Park Gallery in Tampa, and part proceeds from the sale of any art work will go to helping the charity.

Hosted by JCHF, all proceeds from this benefit will go towards help with providing cost free open heart surgery for children from extremely poor families in Jamaica. JCHF is a 501C3 non-profit charity, which is comprised of a medical team from Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in South Florida.

With the JCHF volunteer team present, Ambassador Johnson is expected to speak about the work they have done over the past 13 years, which would mark a major milestone as it would be the first time that a Jamaican Government Representative has officially acknowledged and recognized the tireless commitment and work of the volunteer medical team in addressing the critical need which exists in Jamaica.

“A Heartfelt Journey” will continue its fundraising efforts on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 10th, 2009 with another special event being held in South Florida at the outdoor tropical garden atmosphere of The Bamboo Gallery located in Davie. The inaugural “A Heartfelt Journey” was held on November 22, 2008 and has been described as one of the most enjoyable Caribbean events in South Florida. This up-close and personal event was hosted by 7-time Grammy nominated reggae legends, Third World.
