Jamaican actor, Paul Campbell launches one man play in South Florida

MIRAMAR – There are the movies: The Lunatic, Dancehall Queen, Third World Cop and First Sunday. Now prepare for Paul Campbell: The Life and Times of Jamaican Movie Star, a one-man performance, scheduled to open at the Miramar Cultural Center/Arts Park, Florida, in December 2010.

From one of Jamaica’s harshest ghettos to the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, Paul Campbell, is today arguably Jamaica’s most prominently acclaimed and internationally renowned movie star.

Over the last two decades, Campbell’s stage and film performances have brought him wide recognition, awards and immense visibility within and outside the Caribbean Diaspora.

This one-man play, Paul Campbell: The Life and Times of a Jamaican Movie Star, will demonstrate just how and why Campbell has earned the international acclaim, and will introduce audiences to his versatility and virtuosity. This theatrical presentation is an extremely powerful story of a Jamaican actor who struggles to fulfill his life’s dream of becoming the best at his craft. It is not your typical Hollywood-movie-star-rags-to-riches tale but a Jamaican telling of that same story. And its theme, indeed, is universal.

The play, as the title suggests, is about Campbell’s development personally and professionally, and highlights incredible odds and unrelenting perseverance.
