Jamaica USA Chamber to offer membership discount cards

MIAMI – The Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce (JAUSACC) will be partnering with People’s Telecom Jamaica Ltd. to provide a Membership Discount & International Calling Card to its members.

The partnership will also allow JAUSACC to open an Epicenter in Kingston, Jamaica, to grow its membership, be physically accessible to Jamaican-based businesses and to establish, strengthen, and broker relationships for the benefit of businesses in the Diaspora.

The JUSACC and People’s Telecom will host a complimentary Membership Mixer at the Grand Palms Hotel, Pembroke Pines on August 4th, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., to talk about the partnership and rollout the Membership Discount Card which will offer discount options on the purchase of goods and services from participating members. It will also include international calling features, and will be powered by People’s Telecom.

Marie Gill
President, Jamaica USA Chamber

Making the announcement at a recent briefing, JAUSACC president, Marie Gill said that the Membership Discount Card is one of the many value-added benefits that its board of directors has been working on. “This is the stuff that great chambers are made of,” she said, as she congratulated People’s Telecom for its corporate support and invaluable contributions.

“When you are a new kid on the block as our two-year-old Chamber, the questions tend to be: ‘what will the chamber do for me?’

People’s Telecom’s question to us was ‘how can we help you, how can we be of service?” “As a Trustee Member, People’s is putting its money, its services, and opportunities on the table, for the benefit of Jamaicans and the general membership, and that is an invaluable resource for our Chamber.”

Michael Dawson
President of People’s Telecom Jamaica Limited

Michael Dawson, president of People’s Telecom Jamaica Limited, expressed delight at the arrangement. “We are very excited about this partnership with the Jamaica USA Chamber, as it is consistent with our goal of providing optimum service to Jamaicans. This partnership contributes to our ability to maintain our position as the leading Jamaican telephone company in the Diaspora, and allows us to continue playing a vital role in the growth and enhancement of Jamaican businesses wherever they are.”

Dawson explains that the aim of Peoples Telecom is to continue introducing cutting edge technology to Chamber members to ensure that their businesses are equipped with next-generation components. “We are looking forward to creating innovative solutions for Chamber members, similar to our products done jointly with JUTA, Oliver Samuels and our beloved Miss Lou,” he said.

People’s Telecom, a multi-faceted, telecommunications company that is owned and operated by Jamaicans, will house the Chamber’s epicenter at its Knutsford Boulevard location in New Kingston. Even before the grand opening, arrangements are already in the making to establish the Chamber’s presence.

People’s Telecom will manage the Chamber’s membership drive in Jamaica, to include outreach to all sectors including: tourism and hospitality; entertainment, financial, manufacturing, real estate, retail and professional services. Chamber Members will also benefit from People’s Telecom’s ability to provide links to video conferencing and other business-to-business services.

“We are proud to host JAUSACC’s satellite office in Jamaica. We are committed to its growth and hope that this office will truly become the epicenter for aligning Jamaican businesses locally with those overseas,” Dawson said.

Describing the Epicenter, Gill said that the Chamber’s presence in Jamaica will provide a more hands-on approach to linking members with opportunities in Jamaica and in the U.S.

“We have experienced a surge in membership during the past six months, most of whom are business owners wanting to be linked with Jamaica, and to participate as investors, developers, and subcontractors in the economic boom that is occurring in our country. It is therefore incumbent upon us as the Jamaican Chamber, to understand the economic development and engagement process in Jamaica and to help position our members as relevant players,” she said.

Established just two years ago, through the initiative of its honorary chairman and Consul General of Jamaica, Ricardo Allicock, the Jamaica USA Chamber is boasting a current membership of 345, due largely to its mission of economic empowerment among members and to increase trade and cultural opportunities between Jamaica and the United States. Its membership comprises emerging and well-established businesses, corporations, nonprofit organizations, career professionals and business students.
