Jamaica United Relief Association (JURA) to launch massive collection drive benefiting the youth and athletic programs of Jamaica

FT. LAUDERDALE – Jamaica United Relief Association JURA will hold a Media Launch on Wednesday, Oct. 7th 2009 at 5:30,at the Coconut Breeze Restaurant in Ft Lauderdale where they will outline “Your small change can make a big change” initiative.

Benefiting the youth and athletic programs of the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA). The JAAA is the governing body of track and field in Jamaica.

The JAAA President Howard Aris will be the guest speaker who will outline plans and strategies leading up to the 2011 IAAF World Championship games to be held in Daegue, Korea and the Olympic Games in 2012 in London.

The Jamaican Athletes are predicted to supersede their many victories, their super human performances and repeat the many successes, they had at the 2008 Olympics and more recently on the European meets and the recently completed IAAF World Championship in Berlin, Germany.

“This initiative will see us soliciting our communities in the Southern Regions of the United States and will engage our entire community in various fund raising efforts to reach our goal of $100,000.00 by 2012” states JURA President Dr. Vonnie McGowan.

She said would like to mobilize and partner with all organizations to reach that goal.

“It is entirely possible as we can make that change in the lives of the many youths of Jamaica that need that little assistance to realize their dreams of becoming a track star or to become someone of great worth and substance, benefiting their families and their home country Jamaica, our great future lies in our youths they are indeed our future.

She also said that, “Various fund raising efforts will be tabled and the participation of corporate America, our Churches, Civic and Charitable Organizations; Individuals, Youth groups, Alumni associations basically all the members of the Diaspora in this region will be insistently sought.”

This massive drive which actually started in 2007 is the continuation and commitment of JURA to the Youths of Jamaica.

JURA is a 26 year old organization addressing the various needs of the wider communities of The Southeastern United States, the Caribbean and Jamaica.

This year’s press Launch will be a precursor to the many events leading up to 2012, benefiting Jamaica and its youth programs.It’s Theme :Your small Change will make a big change” To the Youth and Athletic programs of Jamaica” 2009-2012.

“JURA would like to acknowledge the fantastic performance of our athletes and would like to continue helping the JAAA with funding for the further development of the talents that abound in Jamaica which has now come to be known as the “Spirit Factory of the World”.

In 2008 the Jamaica Olympic Team fresh from their Beijing successes along with their managers, and some of their parents were the special guest of JURA they participated in a celebratory Black Tie Affair in their honor in Sunrise, they attended Church services in Miami Gardens at The Pentecostal Tabernacle Church, prior to a family fun day in Lauderdale Lakes where they were entertained by Locally based Entertainers of International renown, proceeds of those events were presented to JAAA in December.

The Olympians and their Managers, coaches and parents were also presented with various accolades, including The Keys to various Florida Municipalities by State and City Officials who were on hand to welcome them.

Celebratory events are now being coordinated for later this month when the Jamaica Track Team will be again invited to Florida.
