KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has endorsed the “Best of Jamaica” Worldwide Survey for 2010 conducted by Jamaicans.com, the premier online community for Jamaicans, visitors, and lovers of Jamaica. The online survey, now in its twelfth year, is open to persons living in Jamaica or in a major city with a strong Jamaican presence.
The annual “Best of Jamaica” survey is a celebration of Jamaica around the world, and highlights the best of Jamaica in two categories – the Best of Jamaica in Jamaica and the Best of Jamaica Abroad.
According to Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch, “No one knows Jamaica better than those who have visited or experienced it firsthand. We are pleased that there is such a forum where Jamaicans or those who’ve fallen in love with Jamaica can provide an insight for potential insight into what the island has to offer.”
Voting is ongoing at http://www.jamaicans.com/bestofjamaica and will end at 11:59 p.m. ET on Nov. 14, 2010. Voting is limited to one entry per person. Visitors to Jamaica have the opportunity to vote in various categories, including the best tourist attraction, best hotel, best hotel for a wedding, best places to purchase crafts as well as t-shirts. There are a number of other non-travel related categories, including best actor and actress, newspaper, radio personality, TV station and best reggae artist. Persons may also cast their vote for favorite sport and foods in a number of subcategories.
Founder and webmaster of Jamaicans.com, Xavier Murphy said the website is proud to celebrate the twelfth year of the Best of Jamaica survey, noting that the idea stemmed from a desire to share the Jamaican culture with the rest of the world. “We have sent our survey to over 40,000 users around the world this year and anticipate a tremendous response. Visitors to the island love the idea that they can see users’ choices for the best places when they visit Jamaica.”
Individuals casting their vote will have the opportunity to win a number of exciting prizes including: two round-trip tickets from any Air Jamaica destination and a five night stay at the Whistling Bird Resort in Negril; two tickets for the Chukka Zipline Canopy Adventure at Cranbrook in Ocho Rios and other prizes.
