Jamaica Police Warn Criminals–Advise Of Attacks On Personnel And Facilities

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Earlier Sunday (May 23) members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in attempting to clear road blocks in Downtown Kingston and Denham Town came under sustained gun attack from criminals firing rifles. These attacks are continuing unabated.
One member of the Island Special Constabulary Force was shot in the hand. His condition is not serious.

In addition, gunfire has since noon been directed at the Fletcher’s Land, Darling Street, Denham Town and Hannah Town Police Stations forcing the police to employ extra-ordinary measures to protect staff and to secure facilities. The back of the Hannah Town station was also set on fire.

The JCF wishes to advise the public that these attacks are unprovoked and coincide with our efforts to lawfully serve the public.

Images of barricades, other defensive positions and the aforementioned unprovoked attacks together with credible intelligence indicate that scores of criminals from several gangs across the island have joined criminal elements in Tivoli Gardens. It is now clear that criminal elements are determined to launch coordinated attacks on the Security Forces.

The Security Forces will respond in an appropriate manner.
