Jamaica National Shows Diaspora How to Connect

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Showing members of Jamaican Diaspora how they can stay ‘connected’ to their country was the main focus of the booth mounted by the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) and its subsidiaries at the two-day convention held in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, last week (June 16-17).

JN Group display at the Diaspora Convention 2011 was to ensure that delegates became familiar with its services for staying in touch with their homeland.

Joy Bennett, JNBS Marketing Officer/Event Strategist said the focus of the JNBS booth at the Convention was LIVE by JN, the Society’s internet banking portal.

“We found that many delegates are already aware that they can stay anywhere in the world and do business with JNBS via Live by JN,” she stated. “They can pay their bills, credit cards and suppliers.”

“The response has been quite good,” Ms. Bennett said pointing out that JNBS representative had assisted some delegates in taking their accounts online. She added that they had also used the opportunity to provide information on the development of bank-to-bank transactions through JNBS accounts.

Michael Young, entrepreneur and wealth creation consultant from the United Kingdom confirmed that the new bank-to-bank service was useful to him. While checking his accounts online at the JN booth, he said, “The innovation is good because you can actually move funds from US to Jamaican accounts, which I didn’t know about.”

A specific product that was promoted at the Convention was the JNBS Jamaica Vacation Account, geared specifically for Diaspora members saving for a holiday in Jamaica. Ms. Bennett said this account is especially useful for second and third generation members of the Diaspora who value its added services.

“The Vacation account allows them to save for a vacation over a period of months and also get benefits and discounts from merchants and hotels,” she said.

The JN Preferred Lender programme was another area of focus for JNBS, said Frances Ross, Account Executive-Developer Programme. She said 30 property developers are included in the programme.

“Developers have to satisfy strict criteria before they can be a preferred lender partner of the Society,” Ms. Ross pointed out. “Once they meet these requirements, we provide them with marketing and promotional support and assist local and overseas customers in identifying appropriate property investments.”

The JNBS Foundation as well as JN Money Services also promoted their services at the JN booth.
