MIAMI – Five past and current members of the Jamaica National Basketball team will serve as “guest coaches” at the youth basketball clinics during Southern Florida ’s largest summer event, Zo’s Summer Groove, (ZSG) hosted by the Miami Heat’s Alonzo Mourning Charities. The players are Aubrey Rose (1998), Marlon Dumont (2000-06), Kali McCarthy (2004-06), Andre Smith (2006), and Chaz Carr (Team Captain 2006). The team’s participation was made possible by Jamaican Wesley Frater, the event’s director of basketball operations, who over the years has supported the local basketball program. Enid Sterling-Angus, VP JaBA Overseas Operations views the team members’ participation as an opportunity to continue the organization’s objective which is to provide life changing options for youngsters; and on behalf on the JaBA extended the gratitude of the team members.

According to Ms. Sterling-Angus “ This opportunity is indeed an honor for our team members, and we thank Mr. Frater for the inviation, as well as his ongoing support.”

Mr. Douglas Forrest, Head Master of Kingston College, and Mr. Ken Neale of St. Catherine All Age School started the JaBA in the 1960’s as a life changing mechanism for local students. These scholarship recipients are the core of the Jamaica National Basketball Program.

“Our national representatives consider altruism an opportunity to share rewards they have realized by playing the sport,” said Ms. Sterling-Angus, “and Marlon, Aubrey, Chaz, Andre, and Kali are proud to represent their team-mates in that regard.”

The players’ participation in the ZSG is a precursor to the July 22 – August 3 national training camp which will be held Miami , as the team prepares to defend their Caribbean Basketball Championship (CBC) title won last year at the tournament in Kingston, Jamaica .
