World’s Fastest Man Wins History Making Fourth World 200m Title

KINGSTON, Jamaica – After retaining his world title in the men’s 100m, Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt continued his dominance by capturing his fourth world title over 200m at the 15th IAAF World Championships now underway. He becomes the first man to win four consecutive gold medals in this event. The Honourable Dr. Wykeham McNeill, Minister of Tourism and Entertainment and Paul Pennicook, Director of Tourism, both witnessed the feat at Jamaica House Beijing.

The two-time Olympic Gold Medalist ran the fastest time of the year to beat out American Justin Gatlin and South African Anaso Jobodwana at today’s much anticipated final in the Bird’s Nest. In 19.55 seconds, Bolt, the Jamaican sensation once again reigned supreme defeating Gatlin by 0.19 seconds, in another match up of the sport’s top two athletes.

“Lightning Bolt, Jamaica’s pride, has once again proven that he’s the fastest man in the world by retaining the world 200m title in Beijing today,” said the Honourable Wykeham McNeill, Minister of Tourism and Entertainment. “We praise his ability and are extremely proud to call him our beloved Jamaican son. Similar to the inaugural Jamaica House during the London Olympics in 2012, Jamaica House Beijing is aimed at showcasing Jamaican culture, food and music, highlighting the destination both as a place to visit as well as to do business.

“It’s another great win for Jamaicans everywhere,” noted Paul Pennicook, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “And Bolt’s performance continues to strengthen our ability to market destination Jamaica. We are excited and ecstatic that Bolt has added yet another chapter to his legacy,” “We are looking forward to seeing the rest of our country’s athletes perform with pride during the championships.”

The next appearance for Bolt will on Saturday, August 29 during the 4x100m relay.
