Jamaica Ex-Police Association, Florida chapter to help give face-lift to St. Ann’s Bay Police Station

MIAMI – Renovation of the Ocho Rios Police Station in St. Ann will take place on Tuesday (May 30) as nearly 32 members of the Jamaica Ex-Police Association, Florida chapter will participate in its annual refurbishing project on Tuesday (May 30) at the facility.

Supplies and equipment totaling $2,000 (US) have been donated for the project by the association members to assist in the refurbishing project.

This is the third annual effort organized by the Jamaica Ex-Police members to assist in the general renovation and restoration of police stations across the island. Clean up effort will include painting of the building, masonry and carpentry and installation of equipment at the stations.

The stations are selected from the island’s designated areas for police stations or according to areas of greatest need, according to the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Dervin Johnson.

Since the establishment of the annual refurbishing project the members have completed clean up projects at the Four Paths and the Lucea Police stations respectively.

Meanwhile, the Jamaica Ex-Police association is accepting applications for its annual USA and Jamaican scholarship program.

Application deadline for the USA scholarship is Thursday, (June 1) and will be presented at the annual fundraising banquet to be held on Saturday (June 24) at the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

Applications for the Jamaican scholarship are being handled by the Community Affairs Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and will be awarded at the Ocho Rios Police Station at a presentation ceremony following the conclusion of the annual refurbishing project on Tuesday (May 30).

The Jamaica Ex-Police Association in South Florida was started nearly 15 years ago and now boasts membership of nearly 120 persons formerly officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Other chapters are established in New York and Connecticut.
