LAUDERHILL – Jamaican nationals in the City of Lauderhill and surrounding environs will benefit from a Community Outreach to be held next Tuesday (March 9) at the City Commission of Lauderhill at 5581 West Oakland Boulevard, in Lauderhill.
The all-day event is organized by the Jamaican Consulate in Miami and will last from 10:00 a.m.
through 4:00 p.m.
Services will cover the processing of Jamaican passport and citizenship applications and consular services.
Persons will also be given the opportunity to make inquiries and receive relevant information first-hand with a team of resource persons from local partnering agencies who will offer a range of direct client services.
Some of the participating agencies include the Jamaica Information Service, Grace Kennedy Remittance Services/Western Union, Jamaica National Building Society and Jamaica National Overseas Inc., Victoria Mutual Building Society, Jamaica Tourist Board, Air Jamaica, the Lauderhill Regional Chamber of Commerce and the United States Census 2010.
Following the Outreach program, Jamaica’s Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington will be the guest speaker at a Town Hall forum, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the same venue.

The series of quarterly Outreach programs were started over a year ago by Jamaican Consul General, Mrs. Sandra Grant Griffiths, and was intended to improve cooperation between the partnering agencies and the Jamaican community as those persons would be able to secure documents and obtain information, on a one-on-one basis, from the relevant agencies on site.
To ensure the efficient and timely processing of any application submitted, persons are reminded to produce the necessary supporting documents and fees. According to the Consul General, the series of Outreach programmes aimed to provide Jamaican nationals with pertinent and relevant information were working in meeting the needs of the Diaspora, as efforts were being made to create accessibility and improve cooperation with the Consulate and partnering agencies.
Outreach activities are slated for other cities across the Southern United States as well as the Cayman Islands.
So far, Jamaicans living in Lauderdale Lakes, West Palm Beach, Orlando Atlanta and Houston have been able to successfully utilize the services of the Consulate and its partnering agencies through Outreach programs already staged in those communities.
