Hope for Japan Match a Major Success

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers and several of the world’s top tennis talents came together for charity soccer match to benefit Japan.

FT. LAUDERDALE – Wednesday’s Hope for Japan Charity Soccer Match was a huge success with thousands of local sports fans coming out to support the relief efforts. The Fort Lauderdale Strikers and tennis superstars including Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray played against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The match saw lots of flare and skills by both teams with several great goals for both teams.

“Tonight was fantastic and we appreciate the support of the community and especially the tennis professionals and their representatives who graciously gave their time for the cause. We hope this event raised not only money but also awareness of the plight of the victims in Japan in order to spur others to support relief efforts”, said Strikers President Tim Robbie .

The Tennis All Stars scored twice, once on a converted penalty by Marcos Baghdatis. The second goal was on a tap in by Andy Murray. Fort Lauderdale won the game 5-2, but the real winner was Japan as donations for the event exceeded expectations.

All donations will go directly to the Red Cross and their ongoing relief efforts in Japan.
