Haiti Presidential Candidate Michel Martelly visits South Florida
MIAMI – Haiti’s presidential candidate Michel Joseph Martelly makes an official stop in the heart of Miami’s Little Haiti, 1pm, Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in part to address the Haitian Diaspora, sharing his message of hope, reconstruction and compassion at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, located at 212 NE 59th Terrace.
“The lack of leadership following the devastating earthquake inspired me to run for the office of the president,” said the 50-year-old former entertainer. “And with cholera continuing to plague our capital city, we need a president who is in it for the people, alongside the people.”
Martelly, an outspoken, charismatic and endearing personality, was reinstated as a candidate following an outcry from his supporters, and now enjoys a comfortable lead heading into the elections slated for March 20, 2011.
“The spotlight on Haiti might be dimming but the struggle continues,” he said. “Only through an unselfish leadership, trust in and of the people, and strategic partnerships will Haiti rise from the despair. It’s time for a change and I bring that change.”
