Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas calls on churches to speak out

ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada – Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has called on the local Christian community to “let their voices be heard” on issues affecting the development of the country.

Speaking at the 52nd Annual national Convention of the New Testament Church of God at the Trade Centre on Sunday, the Prime Minister said the church must add its voice to the national conversation on major issues affecting Grenada.

“The Church is the moral guardian of our society; you are an important partner in our nation’s development. The church therefore must stand up and give praise where praise is due and criticize where criticism is warranted,” the Grenadian leader said.

Prime Minister Thomas described the convention’s theme, “Forward Together in Changing Times”, as “very relevant.” He urged the Grenadian church to work together to help alleviate some of the challenges associated with the breakdown in morals and values in the community.

He noted even as times change, the message of love taught by Christ, must remain constant.

“The Church must continue to take spiritual responsibility for the nation. I ask you to continue to pray for us as leaders and for the nation,” adding that “our success comes from building together.”

Bishop of the New Testament Church of God in Grenada, George Fletcher, said there is an “absolute need” for denominations to work in unity to affect the quality of life for all Grenadians.

“No single organisation can do it alone and no one leader can achieve what we all can achieve, if we work together,” Bishop Fletcher said.
