Grenada’s Minister of State, Senator Simon Stiell To Visit South Florida
SOUTH FLORIDA – Grenada’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Education with responsibility for Human Resource Development, The Honorable Senator Simon Stiell will visit South Florida from November 11-15, 2015.
The Senator comes to South Florida to meet with high-level representatives of four universities and colleges, to discuss scholarships and in-state tuition for Grenadian students wishing to matriculate to Florida colleges, as well as to explore study abroad opportunities. This is the first such visit since Grenada reestablished a consular post in Florida after an almost 10-year absence.
This visit is well orchestrated and comes on the heels of precursory meetings initiated by Consul General Warren E. Newfield, with the University of Miami, Florida International University, Nova Southeastern University and Miami Dade Community College.
The Consul General said “Since higher education and training are priority on my government’s development agenda, the Consulate has made scholarships a main area of focus, in addition to trade and investment and consular services. These universities were chosen strategically, based on the priority areas for training identified by the Ministry of Education”.
The major outcome of this visit would be much needed scholarships for bright, young, aspiring students, eager for the opportunity to further their education and then return to give back to the Grenada. There is also enormous potential here for collaboration and exchanges between Grenada’s tertiary institutions and these universities.
On September 22, 2015, Senator Stiell met with the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance of the Rosen College of Hospitality Management in the University of Central Florida, to discuss the offer of scholarships, while the Dean was in Grenada on a Consulate initiated work/site visit.
While in South Florida Senator Stiell will also meet with Grenadians in academia, and attend a discussion with
students, nationals in the diaspora and friends of Grenada, at a town hall meeting at 4:00PM on Saturday,
November 14, 2015 at 5230 North West 73 Way, Lauderhill, FL 33319.
