Grenada looks forward to hosting the ICC World Cup Of Cricket in 2007

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – – The International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup is coming to Grenada, along with nine other Caribbean islands, in 2007. Matches will take place on the island from April 10th -20th and will certainly attract a large number of visitors to Grenada.

As part of a Home Stay Program, the Grenada government has developed an initiative that encourages the people of Grenada to expand their homes in order to accommodate the abnormally large number of visitors that the island expects to welcome during the tournament. They are offering tax and duty concessions on building and furnishings to home owners who are willing to renovate their homes for that purpose. The Home Stay Program hopes to attract a minimum of 1,000 rooms.

Also taking place in concert with preparations for the Cricket World Cup is the construction of a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose national stadium with a capacity to comfortably accommodate 15,500 sitting spectators. This high-profile project is being financed by the government and people of the Republic of China. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2006.

“The ICC Cricket World Cup promises to be one of the largest and most exciting international events to ever take place in Grenada,” said Jocelyn Sylvester-Gairy, Director of Tourism for the Grenada Board of Tourism in St. George’s, Grenada.
