Grenada gears up for International Cricket Games

St. George’s, Grenada  – The Grenada Tourism Authority welcomed the West Indies and England cricket teams on Saturday, 18th April at the Maurice Bishop International Airport. The two teams will play the second test match of England’s Tour of the West Indies at the Grenada National Stadium from Tuesday, April 21st to Saturday,  April 25th 2015.

“We are all excited about the upcoming games. The series is wide open given that the first test match was drawn. We have excellent cricket grounds here in Grenada and we are all excited to have our very own Devon Smith as the opening batsman for the West Indies cricket team,” said Mr. Dwain Gill, President of the Grenada Cricket Association.

The cricket test match adds significant value to the Grenadian economy, especially at a time when cruise calls and stay-over arrivals for the winter season begin to wind down. Hotels are booked for the action-packed week as sporting fans follow their teams.

When supporters of the English and West Indian teams are out of the stadium, they can indulge in Grenada’s natural beauty and attend cultural events. The island houses the West Indies Cricket Heritage Centre at the Spice Basket, which documents the journey of the sport in the Caribbean. The tri-island state, Grenada, Carriacou & Petite Martinique offer a host of soft adventures, panoramic views, and mouthwatering cuisine. During the cricket games there will be floating concerts, cultural exhibitions, and food extravaganzas.
