Get your groove on at ”THE 70’S SOUL JAM!”

FORT LAUDERDALE – They have become the kings of P.B.S. pledge week specials and have sold millions of CD and DVD recordings but now four of the biggest names in pop and rhythm and blues are back playing to live crowds as the Broward Center and North American Entertainment Group present The 70’s Soul Jam! on Saturday, November 4 at 8 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert features a dream line up of Rhythm and Blues Foundation Pioneer Award winners The Chi-Lites, The Delfonics and The Manhattans along with The Stylistics in a non-stop jukebox of top ten hits.

Chilites

Although originally called the Hi-Lites, once the Chi-Lites added the first letter of their hometown of Chicago to the name, the group began to crack the R&B charts with “Give It Away,” “Are You My Woman” and “Let Me Be the Man My Daddy Was.” They became a cross-over phenomenon when they topped the pop charts with “Have You Seen Here” and “Oh Girl.”

Delfonics

Two groups that started out in Philadelphia are on the bill. Showcasing the lush, seamless Philadelphia sound, The Delfonics’ will perform their hits “Ready or Not Here I Come,” “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time” and “La-La (Means I Love You).” The Stylistics are known for stopping the show with sharp harmonies on such favorites as “You are Everything,” “Betcha By Golly Wow” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New.”

Manhattans

Like the whiskey-based cocktail from which the band takes its name, The Manhattan’s are 100 percent smooth with a strong kick. The band got its big break when it won third prize at the Apollo Theater Amateur Night Contest and went on to play the White House and sold-out venues the world over singing hits that include “Summer Time in the City,” “Kiss and Say Goodbye” and “Shining Star.”

Stylistics

Tickets are $29.50, $39.50 and $49.50. Tickets and group discounts are available through the Broward Center’s AutoNation Box Office at 954/462-0222 or www.browardcenter.org.
