Art = Antidote to Hate: Celebrating Respect, Equality & Diversity through Art on view at Miramar Cultural Center

MIRAMAR – The City of Miramar Cultural Center and ArtServe have partnered together to present Art = Antidote to Hate: Celebrating Respect, Equality & Diversity through Art, an exhibition showcasing critical issues facing our community.

Featuring five acclaimed South Florida artists known for their thought-provoking explorations of the connection between art and social activism, the exhibition is currently on view through November 20, 2014.

Featured artists:

Sean Black is a journalist, artist, activist and educator whose works document the human condition. “Human Nature” addresses the dilemma of homelessness.

Randy Burman draws widely from popular culture, history, information design and political events. Wavering between intellectualism, flippancy and humor, he makes bold statements in various styles and mediums.

Tony Chimento is an award-winning realist painter with a celebrated career. A recipient of the prestigious Pollock- Krasner Award, his detailed, complex work has been featured in the New York Times, American Artist, and other publications.

Tabatha Mudra is a photographer, performance artist and activist committed to social justice and community activism, always pushing the envelope while engaging new audiences through inventive interaction.

Lori Pratico began as a billboard artist and became a portrait painter portraying people who dare to be different. “Society labels my subjects solely on their appearance. My portraits challenge you to look closer, longer and see differently.”

This is the second of three exhibitions scheduled in this partnership with ArtServe during the 2014-15 cultural season. The concluding exhibition is an exclusive look at the artwork of Nelson Mandela entitled: Mandela Messages: Art by and inspired by Nelson Mandela scheduled for February 2015.
