Foundation launched to support Jamaica through sport

MIAMI – Fastest Nation (www.FastestNation.com) has launched its non-profit arm, Fastest Foundation, which aims to (i) amplify the positive impact of sports for the development of Jamaican youth and (ii) support the continued development of Jamaica’s sports programs, with initial focus on track and field.

This two-pronged approach is meant to serve as a targeted way of channeling support from those with a passion for the development of Jamaica and its youth that recognize the impact of sports.

Fastest Foundation will expand on the efforts launched by Fastest Nation during the 2008 Olympics to galvanize the enthusiasm of the Diaspora for the betterment of Jamaica.

“Sport builds character and character is a key ingredient in bringing Jamaica back to the great nation it is destined to be. This is the powerful reality that Fastest Nation intends to build on.

In the universe of options to support Jamaica, we see the marriage of sports and development as a creative one that can be easily embraced by all walks of people while also being a extremely impactful on the beloved Jamaica”, said Andrew McFarlane, a co-founder of Fastest Nation. “Our name, Fastest Nation embodies a bold statement of what Jamaica represents physically, as recently witnessed in the Olympics, and also what it can represent culturally in modern times that demand flexibility and responsiveness to navigate the challenges of globalization.

Jamaica needs the support of the Diaspora on many fronts. The Fastest Foundation intends to hastily respond on one of these fronts by utilizing sport as a development tool. We challenge the Diaspora to support Jamaica on the field and in the lives of the people.”

Fastest Nation was launched in the weeks leading up to the 2008 Olympics that saw historic success for the Jamaican track team.

The FastestNation.com website continues to unfold into a hybrid of information source on Jamaican track and a philanthropic base for those who see sport as a developmental tool for Jamaica.

The organization has partnered with the American Friends of Jamaica (“AFJ”) for the administration of funds donated. This sends a clear signal of embracing openness and integrity. Donors can be comforted in knowing that their contributions are under the administration of AFJ and its vaunted reputation for integrity.

The Fastest Foundation launches with two key programs – Fastest Scholar Grants and Jamaica Track Fund. The Fastest Scholar Grants will provide scholarships for select student-athletes with need to attend participating Jamaican secondary institutions. Munroe College is the first in what will be many institutions participating in the Fastest Scholar network.

The Jamaica Track Fund will serve as a general fund for supporting reputable organizations and initiatives benefiting athletes training to represent Jamaican track in international competition and lacking major financial sponsorships. These developmental athletes represent the future legacy of the vaunted Jamaican track factory.
