Former Jamaica Consul General to New York Honored

NEW YORK – Former Jamaica Consul General to New York, Dr. Basil K. Bryan, was honored by Caribbean Food Delights/Royal Caribbean Bakery (CFD/RCB) for outstanding community service on Saturday, December 8.

Dr. Bryan, who retired from the post of Consul General in September, having served since 1998, was one of five persons recognized by the Jamaican pastry manufacturing outlet, at the company’s annual end of year appreciation function held at the trendy Surf Club on the New Rochelle waterfront, New York.

The other honorees were: Rev. Canon Calvin McIntyre, pastor of the Good Shepherd Church, Bronx; Amir Abdullah Mohammed Abdul Akbar, founder/executive director of the Caribbean American Programme for Empowerment (CAPE), Inc; Bishop Sylveta Hamilton-Gonzales of Q-Kingdom Ministries (WGE); and Tim Conway, Director of Sales and CFD/RCB and 2007 employee of the year.

For her many outreach efforts including the Team Jamaica Bickle feeding program at the annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia, the Island Games in New York and Hurricane Dean Relief Fund, Sabrina HoSang, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, was presented with a proclamation from United States Congressman Edolphus Towns (Brooklyn) and the United States House of Representatives, for her outstanding philanthropy and community activism.

The company recently announced that its franchise operation, now trading as JerkQzine, will offer its customers “a vacation from ordinary food”.
