MIAMI – After serving six years as Florida State Legislator, former Rep. Phillip Brutus has decided to take on a greater challenge-that is to run for Congress.

This Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 6:00 pm, Phillip Brutus launches his campaign kick-off at Prime Atlantis restaurant located at 1727 East Hallandale Beach Blvd. Prime Atlantis is in the northeast side of the district’s Broward section.

“It is important that members of our community are engaged in building a stronger South Florida-that requires getting involved in the political process. I look forward to engaging members of our community at this kick-off,” says Rep. Phillip Brutus.

“Our community needs a vibrant leader, with hands on experience on the issues of job placement, immigration, education, and trade and budget deficits, among other issues. I am firmly committed to forging stronger trade agreements with the Caribbean, Central and South America. This Kick-Off will be the first step toward this great journey.”

“I’ve followed Phillip, during his time in the Florida Legislature, I’ve seen his work. Phillip Brutus is what District 17 needs and this kick-off will show it,” says Broward County’s Caribbean Democratic President, Patrick Jabouin.

I am excited to take part of this ground breaking event,” says Dr. Kestia Cadeau, Professor and Education Department Chair at St. Thomas University. “There is much work to be done-its time to get started in making positive changes.”

“Mr. Brutus brings fresh ideas. I intend to bring my family and friends to be part of this movement. This event is not just an opportunity to meet the candidate, but a call of action to our community,” says 28 year old, Nick Zizi, renowned author and motivational speaker.

“Our community is in need of policies that work, this kick-off jumpstarts the great things we can do to build a greater District 17,”says Brutus.

“The kickoff will be a great opportunity and venue for the community to not only meet Atty. Brutus, but also learn about his great platform–his vision for this district,” says Cassandra Theramene, Executive Director of Essence of a Haitian Woman, Inc.

Now is the time to get involved and continue with the changes happening in Washington DC. We need a person in Congress who understands that the days of business as usual are over and who will not cave under pressure of special interests groups. Let’s come together and elect a proven leader who will stand up for the people and whose leadership we can believe in.

Phillip Brutus’ kick-off is open to all members of the South Florida community. There will be great food and entertainment. The event is located at 1727 East Hallandale Beach Blvd, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009.
