Trinidad and Tobago: No agreement for 20% increase to Police Officers

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has taken note of a headline on the front page of the Newsday Newspaper, of Friday, February 18, 2011. The headline states: “20 % for Police”. It follows a strap line saying “Govt caves in to sick-out pressure”.

The Government has made no commitment on this matter and wishes to advise that the talks between the Chief Personnel Officer and the representatives of the Police Social and Welfare Association are on-going. As such, the headline and the article which purports to convey the impression that a commitment has been made and that an agreement has been reached are erroneous and misleading.
