Former Deputy Prime Minister of Barbados sworn in as Prime Minister

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – With the passing of Prime Minister, the Hon. David Thompson, Q.C., M.P. on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at his home, The Hon. Freundel Stuart, Q.C., M.P., the former Deputy Prime Minister, Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs of Barbados, was sworn-in Saturday morning as Prime Minister of Barbados in a ceremony at Government House.

In addition, Member of Parliament for St. Philip South, the Hon. Adriel Brathwaite, took the oath of office today as the new Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs.

A period of national mourning has been ordered, and this will be observed from Saturday until the State Funeral, which will be held on a date to be announced shortly.

The Barbados flag will be flown at half-mast during the period of mourning.

Funeral arrangements are currently being finalised and full details will be forthcoming.
