Florida Hispanic Caucus shows support for Haitian American Community

TALLAHASSEE ‐ On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 the country of Haiti experienced an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude. The earthquake occurred early Tuesday evening 10 miles west of Port-Au-Prince. The members of the Florida Hispanic Legislative Caucus are extremely concerned about the devastation that has occurred in Haiti and want to offer assistance to the Haitian American community.

Representative Esteban L. Bovo (R-Hialeah), Chairman of the Florida Hispanic Caucus issued the following statement today regarding the earthquake:

“The members of the Florida Hispanic Legislative Caucus are appalled at the devastation that is a result of Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti. We join our brothers and sisters in the Haitian American community in prayer for all those affected,”

“We will work with our Haitian American colleagues in the House to expedite all assistance available for the impact of the zone.”

Representative Juan C. Zapata (R-Miami), Treasurer and Past Chairman of the Florida Hispanic Caucus issued the following statement today regarding the earthquake:

“As a young nation, Haiti stood with the fledgling democracies in our hemisphere. Today, as neighbors and grateful for the contributions of Haitian Americans to our great state it is time for us to stand with Haiti.”
