First woman Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda to take Oath of Office

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Prime Minister the Hon. Baldwin Spencer announced that his government has recommended to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II, the appointment of Antiguan and Barbduan national Mrs. Louisse Lake-Tack as the next Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda.

Prime Minister Spencer said that Mrs. Lake Tack’s appointment was accepted by Her Majesty and the official swearing in ceremony will take place on Tuesday, July 17 during a joint sitting of the House of Representatives.

Mrs. Lake Tack’s appointment follows the retirement of Sir James Beethoven Carlisle as Governor-General who has served in the position for over thirteen years.

Prime Minister Spencer in his letter to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II praised Sir James for his service to Antigua and Barbuda and requested of Her Majesty to express to Sir James Carlisle the gratitude of the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda for the distinguished service which he gave to his country with selfless devotion as representative of the Queen.


Louisse Lake-Tack

Louise Agnetha Lake-Tack was born on July 26, 1944 at Long Lane Estate in the Parish of St. Phillip’s in Antigua.

She was educated at the Freetown Government School before attending the Antigua Girls High School in St. John’s.

After graduation Mrs. Lake-Tack migrated to the United Kingdom (UK) where she pursued studies in nursing at the Charring Cross Hospital. Following her studies, she was employed at the National Heart Hospital and the Harley Street Clinic.

After pursuing legal studies, Mrs. Lake-Tack served as a magistrate from 1995 at both Marylebone and Horseferry Magistrate Courts. She also sat at Pocock Street Crown Court and Middlesex Crown Court to hear appeals from the lower courts.

Mrs. Lake-Tack is a member of the Antigua and Barbuda National Association (London) for the past twenty-four (24) years. She sat on the church committee of that group which was instrumental in arranging the annual Antigua and Barbuda Independence Church Service in London.
Mrs. Lake-Tack will be sworn into office by His Lordship the Hon. Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Brian George Alleyne, S.C.

Mrs. Lake-Tack becomes the second Antiguan and Barbudan national and the first woman to hold the position.
