Bahamas elected to WHO Executive Board

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Bahamas has been elected by the Sixtieth World Health Assembly to serve on the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The Assembly is the supreme decision-making body of WHO.

The Executive Board is composed of 34 individuals, technically qualified in the field of health, each of whom is designated by a member State, elected to do so by the World Health Assembly.

Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis, Chief Medical Officer, and head of The Bahamas delegation to this year’s assembly, has been designated to serve in that capacity.

Member States are elected for three-year terms. The primary functions of the Executive Board are to give effect to the decisions and policies of the Assembly, to advise it, and generally to facilitate its work.

The 121st Session of the Executive Board was held May 24, in Geneva, Switzerland.
