Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and Entertainment Endorses VW’s Super Bowl Commercial

Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, the Hon Dr. Wykeham McNeill has thrown his support behind Volkswagen’s newly released Super Bowl advertisement, which has registered well over half a million views on the popular video-sharing website YouTube.

Minister McNeill said “I think this is a very creative commercial which truly taps into the tremendous mass appeal that brand Jamaica and its hospitable people have globally.”

The commercial, which has generated much discussion across various social media platforms and in the electronic media locally and overseas, also uses reggae icon Jimmy Cliff’s new rendition of the Partridge Family theme song “Get Happy.”

Minister McNeill added that “I believe the commercial is also a tribute to the popularity of reggae music worldwide and I salute Jimmy Cliff for being a true Jamaican ambassador through his outstanding music. I urge persons all across the globe to do exactly what the commercial portrays, which is to tap into your inner Jamaican and ‘get happy.”

The commercial is slated to be aired during the highly anticipated Super Bowl finals on Sunday, February 3, 2013, which will mark the climax of the National Football League (NFL) season in the United States.
