Find the Rhythm Of Grenada at the 6th Annual Drum Festival

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – The community of Tivoli, located in the exotic tropical setting of northeastern Grenada, invites visitors to join in a rich celebration of life and music. At the Annual Grenada Drum Festival from May 5-7, 2006, visitors can get in touch with the soul of Grenadian culture through drumming and dancing.

Tivoli is the birthplace of the Annual Drum Festival and home to the Tivoli Drummers who are carrying out traditions in a way all of their own. The Tivoli Drummers have developed a unique style of choreographed drumming and dancing that is sure to please the eyes and ears, as well as get visitors up on their feet. The festival was first created as a result of the awe-inspiring feeling that Director of the Tivoli Drummers, Livingston Krumah Nelson, felt upon witnessing a drum festival in Guadeloupe known as Gwoka.

Visitors are welcome to experience the high level of skill involved as renowned drummers, not only proudly display their instruments, but also make them come alive. Visitors are also invited to take drumming and dancing lessons provided at the workshops the festival has to offer. After working up an appetite, guests can indulge in mouth-watering Grenadian dishes and delights. The Festival will also feature booths displaying beautiful local art.

Known as the “Spice Island of the Caribbean,” Grenada boasts some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches, delectable cuisine and spices, a tropical rainforest, and a wide range of fun-filled activities such as world-class diving, snorkeling, hiking, fishing and sailing. Grenada can be reached from the U.S. with Air Jamaica’s service from several major cities including New York and Miami.
