Miami – On Saturday, November 2, 2013, the Kiwanis Club of Pinecrest/Palmetto Bay (KPPB) partners with Barbara Gordon Leukemia Bone Marrow Awareness, Inc. BGLMBA is inspired by Barbara Gordon, a survivor of leukemia for over 20 years. Barbara is committed to educating others about bone marrow diseases and to increase the number of bone marrow and cell donors. BGLMBA’s mission is to create awareness among South Florida communities with the vision to become a global contributor to saving the lives of people diagnosed with Leukemia bone marrow disease.

“We are very excited that our 6th Annual Run/Walk for Awareness is at the beautiful Larry and Penny Thompson Park again this year. We invite you to bring a team of your family, friends and co-workers. You’ll enjoy the outdoor facilities and have fun while competing in the 5K run or the walk,” says Barbara Gordon, founder of the BGLBMA.

The Run/Walk includes a 5-kilometer race for runners and a 5-kilometer race for walkers and opportunity to earn money for the charity of your choice. Teams of 20 members and over will receive a grant of 25% of their group’s total registration fee for the team’s selected charity. To qualify for this offer, the selected charity must be a registered 501 (C) 3 organization. Entry fee is $25 per person (Early Bird special of $20 per person before September 30) and students have a special rate of $15 with student identification. All participants will receive a registration kit including race t-shirt and race bib.

Participants will also have an opportunity to learn about becoming a bone marrow or blood cell donor at the Be the Match booth. Fruits, water and other snacks will be available before and after the race, and there will be lots of fun activities for the whole family.
