Diaspora Vibe Gallery highlights Caribbean Artists at Art Basel

MIAMI – Participating in Art Basel, Diaspora Vibe Gallery presents Rituals: Perceptions and Visualizations. What are the rituals that define who we are and what we do? Rituals of various kinds are a feature of all societies, past or present.

Repetition and the performative aspects of our daily lives will be explored in this exhibition that asks viewers to pay attention to the ways society and individuals create their own personal rituals, habits, and routines.

Rituals: Perceptions and Visualizations is a multi-media group exhibition featuring installation, video, painting, photography, and performance. Artists from Jamaica, Haiti, St. Martin, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and U.S. will explore varying interpretations of ritual.

The ten juried featured artists include, Deborah Jack, Alejandro Contreras, Loriel Beltran, Rachel Wilberforce, Predrag Pajdic, Elyce Semenec, Natalia Vasquez, Teri Richardson, Rodney Jackson, John Cox, and John Beatle.

The gallery will be transformed for this multi-media exhibition. Deborah Jack uses images of salt to explore rituals of memory. A video collaboration by Rachel Wilberforce and Predrage Pajdic examine actions in civilizations, both the individual and society. Teri Richardson’s translucently painted 3-dimensional paintings hang from the ceiling signifying dream catching as ritual. Rodney Jackson’s installation combines the spiritual concepts and idea of heaven and hell. In addition, we will feature work from Luisa Mesa, Tere Pastoriza from Cuba, Asser Saint Val from Haiti and Caroline Holder from Barbados and other stable Diaspora Vibe Gallery artists.

Ritual: Perceptions and Visualizations will be held at Diaspora Vibe Gallery, located in Miami’s Design District at 3938 North Miami Avenue from December 7 through December 31.

An opening reception takes place Thursday, December 7 from 6-10 pm. For more information visit, www.diaporavibe.net
