DIASPORA:-A Drama on Caribbean Unity (Comedy)

HOLLYWOOD – Teyat Pawol (The theatre of words), a Drama Group from the Caribbean Island of Dominica, which was formed in Florida in 1999, has returned with a play “DIASPORA”. The production will bring the curtains down on Caribbean Heritage Month in South Florida, June 2009.

DIASPORA, a full-length Action Theatrical Drama, has its setting in a South Florida City Hall; the play exposes the many fundamental inconsistencies in Caribbean societies, while highlighting their close Cultural and other similarities. A greater appreciation for self and Country (One Caribbean), is realized and good triumphs over evil at the end. The plot surrounds a group of Florida residents from the Caribbean “Diaspora”, a Sheriff and twin sisters who appear in the form of spirits.

The cast include, Tabitha Dacres of Jamaica, Nakima Knight, Lauralyn Dennis and Miriam Scott from Trinidad & Tobago, Priscilla Denis, Nicaise Parillon, Rashida Richardson, Noreen Joseph, Mickael Ferrol, Giselle Gabriel and Emile “Pa Ben” Serrant from Dominica and Natasha Archibald from St.Kitts/Nevis. The group’s Artistic Director/Writer is Alex Bruno and Technical Director is Vernard Christian.

Diaspora is expected to bring out the theatre-going audience and will certainly provoke laughs and create nostalgia, especially for the Caribbean patrons. The play is suitable for general audiences.

The play will be staged at the Hollywood Center for Performing Arts located at 1770 Monroe Street
Hollywood, Florida on Sunday June 28, 2009 from 7:00pm and runs for 90 minutes.
