Consul General of Jamaica to Miami is the Ambassador-designate of Jamaica to the United Mexican States
KINGSTON, JAMAICA – “Sandra Grant Griffiths, JP and Consul General of Jamaica to Miami is the Ambassador-designate of Jamaica to the United Mexican States,” announces Senator, the Hon. Arnold J. Nicholson, Q.C., Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade.
Mrs. Grant Griffiths entered the Jamaican Foreign Service over 30 years ago, in tandem serving both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade (MFAFT) and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) simultaneously.
She was appointed Jamaica’s Consul General to the Southern United States, Caymans Islands & the Bahamas in August 2008, and is the Honorary Chair of the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce, South Florida and the Honorary Chair of the Jamaican Women of Florida.

Prior to her appointment in Miami, the Ambassador-designate was concurrently Chief of State Protocol to the Government of Jamaica and Director of Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
As Director of the Jamaica Overseas and Consular Affairs Department, which is now the Diaspora & Consular Affairs Department (DCAD), the Ambassador-designate was instrumental in the establishment of the Diaspora Affairs Programme, beginning with the Returning Residents’ Programme and its policy expansion into the Jamaicans Overseas Programme, which led to the delivery of the inaugural Jamaican Diaspora Conference in Kingston (2004).
Her other career appointments include: Programme Manager and Administrator, OPM (1987-1989); Project Coordinator, seconded to the West Indian Commission, St. Michael Barbados (1989-1993); Director, Communication and Liaison, Returning Residents Facilitation Unit, MFAFT (1993-1998); and Director, Protocol (MFAFT) and Chief of Protocol, Jamaica (2004-2008).
Among recent community and service awards Mrs. Grant Griffiths has received recognition from the Legacy Magazine as one of South Florida’s 50 most powerful and influential Black Business Leaders of 2012. Also in that year, the Miami-Dade County recognized her contribution to community building and the fostering of trade between Jamaica and Miami-Dade, Florida.
Mrs. Grant Griffiths who has a BSc from the University of the West Indies, Mona, also has managerial certification from the Management Institute for National Development (MIND) and has benefitted from other professional in-service training programmes, including the UN International Refugee and Implementation Workshop.
Set to begin her tour of duty in September, Mrs. Grant Griffiths is married and has a daughter.
