BASSSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said that despite the global economic and financial challenges, construction on several hotel projects is continuing.
He told a Town Hall Meeting at the Sandy Point High School that his governing Labour Party administration will continue to ensure that the economy of the twin-island Federation show signs of growth.
Dr. Douglas pointed out that St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be a preferred place for investment and development pointing out that several hotel projects have been stopped in Anguilla, St. Lucia and Grenada.
“Here in St. Kitts alone we have Ocean’s Edge which is still going. Silver Reef is still going, and Christophe Harbor Development on the Southeast Peninsula is still under construction. The earthwork for the golf course at Christophe Harbor is taking shape. Work of the salt pond has started and we recently witnessed the ground breaking ceremony for the first residence that will be a part of the Christophe Harbor Development,” said Dr. Douglas, pointing out that “all those activities involve hotels with foreign direct investment.”
He referred to the recent signing of a Residential Marketing Agreement between the St. Kitts Marriott Condominiums and Century 21 Island Realty for the marketing of 270 units to be constructed by Resorts Acquisitions and Developments Limited, owners of the former Angelus Resort.
“They believe that St. Kitts is an ideal place to continue to invest and even though there is a global economic and financial downturn, they are confident that eventually things will improve and when there is an improvement, they would have expanded their investment in St. Kitts and the Marriott hotel management company will again be managing the four new buildings comprising the 270 units to be built at cost of US$125 million,” Prime Minister Douglas told the large gathering.
He stressed that residents who have been listening to the radio, watching television and surfing of the internet will know what is happening not only on the United States, but in Europe and other parts of the world.
“The United States has put in place a stimulus package that is expected to rejuvenate the American economy and international economy, thus resulting in more and more people travelling again to boost the local and other economies,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who expressed confidence and hope that “things will get better, things will improve resulting in the re-employment of persons in the hotel industry and also an increase in job opportunities.”

Silver Reef Resort on St. Kitts’ Frigate Bay is a $30 million project that involves the construction of 54 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and 8 duplex villas, two swimming pools and a 12,000 square foot commercial area to house restaurants, shops and a bank.
Ocean’s Edge is a resort development overlooking Frigate Bay that combines luxury outdoor and indoor living. The development covers 40 acres and comprises 170 condominiums including one- and two-bedroom beachfront apartments, two-bedroom hillside apartments with individual plunge pools and two-bedroom semi-detached garden cottages.

In addition, 23 villa plots offering some of the finest views on the island are available with the option of building a three or four-bedroom villa. A variety of leisure and entertainment facilities are planned, including a clubhouse, fitness centre, restaurants, pools and tennis courts.
Christophe Harbour Development on St. Kitts’ Southeast Peninsula, is a US$2 billion development which includes a Tom Fazio-designed US$25 million golf course now under construction, two five-star hotels, a classy mega yacht marina, boutiques, shops, luxurious villas, ocean front homes and private home sites surrounded by six pristine beaches on 2,500 acres of land.
