Commentary with Winston Barnes: Theives?

DAVIE – A number of universities have set an example that many CEO’s in this country should emulate. These presidents have decided to forego a number of raises in salary and bonuses, in order to assist these education institutions coping with hard times.

This is commendable for a number of reasons, not the least among them is that students have to pay so much for tuition and books, in part to ensure presidents are paid these huge salaries and bonuses.

Would this not be a great idea for the heads of large companies in this country to follow the lead of these university presidents? Of course some ignoramuses will say this is but another form of socialism. This should not however prevent thoughtful people from contemplating this notion.

First the CEO’s of companies that do well could be decent and take cuts in their bonuses and annual salary increase. Then those whose companies do not do well, but will still get big fat bonuses would simply not take those bonuses.

While we could readily say this is not possible, there is another company that has been sold to foreign interests that is sharing six point four million dollars with its workers. Could this not be another good example?
