Commentary with Winston Barnes: Shootings

DAVIE – There is a certain familiarity with the shootings that took place last week in North Carolina and New York State and that they are but reminders of the anger that fills some people at this time.

Whether it is a sign of hard economic times or just the evil in the heart of men’s minds, we might not be sure for some time to come. We are not sure either, whether there will be more or not, yet we can be assured that things for many are not getting better quickly enough.

Far too many of us have grown accustomed to quick fixes and instant gratification to wait for tough times to run their course. Hence, impatience blinds us to the possibility that the hard times will not last forever.

Add to this the fact so many people are bent on exploiting those who are suffering the most, that another level of suffering is ensured. So many of the specialists who are emerging to help people out of foreclosure, for example, are preparing to take many for a ride, for a fee. Again.

One prays the tragic shootings will come to an end, yet one fears they might not. When hard times are mixed with folk seeking to exploit others, the outcome can hardly be predicted.
