“It was an honor to share ideas with the local leaders of the United Kingdom regarding the important issue of climate change,” said Mayor Diaz, who is also President of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM). “It was also a great opportunity to highlight the over 10 initiatives that the City of Miami has undertaken to help our environment.”

During the presentation, Mayor Diaz spoke about Miami’s Mi Plan, the city’s climate action plan to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the creation of the Green Commission and the Office of Sustainable Initiatives. He also highlighted USCM programs such as the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and the 2030 Green Buildings Challenge.

“I was delighted that Mayor Diaz could join the UK Local Government Association Climate Change conference via videoconferencing today. This was an opportunity for the Mayor to highlight the significant progress being made in Miami and other cities in the US in addressing climate change and the move towards a low carbon economy,” said British Consul General in Miami, Keith Allan. “The UK/US relationship is strong and this was a valuable opportunity for the Mayor to share best practice on a vitally important issue. We are grateful for the Mayor’s continued leadership in this area.”
