Charter School develops its “Diversity IQ” by focusing recruitment efforts squarely on Caribbean Market

LAUDERDALE LAKES – The Smart School Charter Middle will be holding an invitation only “Meet & Greet” with members of the Haitian community on Tuesday May 15th, 2007 from 9:00 A.M.-11:00 P.M. located at 3698 NW 15th Avenue, Lauderhill.

In an effort to recruit more Haitian students to its rolls, The Smart School Charter Middle has begun a targeted campaign aimed specifically at the Haitian and Haitian-American market. The Meet & Greet is one of many marketing and communicating strategies in what the institution has dubbed “The Caribbean Crossroads” Campaign.

The school has engaged a public relations and marketing firm that specializes in the Caribbean market to raise its profile within the Haitian community. The campaign will consist of meeting various “gatekeepers” within the Haitian community; developing radio spots and interviews on Haitian radio; and speaking engagements at several Haitian churches and community organizations. The aim is to raise the school’s profile and name recognition within this growing and increasingly important target community.

“The Haitian community has always seen education as a key to their social and economic future. We want them to see The Smart Schools as a viable option for their children’s education and future. We want to take the time to get to know them as they get to know us and develop a greater sense of trust and bond over time.” states Edward Miller, the Executive Director of The Smart Schools.

The Meet & Greet meeting will consist of several Haitian pastors, community leaders, public servants and business leaders. Mr. Edward Miller and several of his executive staff will be on hand to present the school and listen to the advice and suggestions of the Haitian community.

The Smart School Charter Middle is part of The Smart Schools institution which consists of Eagle Charter Academy, The Institute of Technology and Commerce, and Tech Edventures.
